Hope you all had an amazing weekend and found a little time to create or get inspired. I wanted to share something a bit different tonight. A few months ago, I had the chance to attend a really special event in Austin, Texas called Camp Film Fest, hosted by a group of creators known as Creator Camp. I have been watching most of them individually for years before they came together as a collective, so when I heard they were hosting a meetup to showcase short films made by creators, I knew I had to go.
Among all the films that screened, one stood out in a way I honestly did not expect. It is called "Ashes to Ashes" by Monique Yvonne Jones, and it struck me on a level that is hard to explain. From the first few minutes, I found myself leaning in, not because I knew where it was going, but because something about it quietly drew me in. By the time the credits rolled, I was sitting there completely moved. It was one of those moments where you don’t want to talk right away because you are still processing what you just felt.
What made it so impactful was how it let the story breathe. It never tried to over-explain or force a reaction, it just let you experience it. There is a weight in the way it unfolds, something surreal and intimate that lingers after it ends. I can count on one hand the number of films that have made me feel this way, and this one belongs on that list.
